Allium and Phlox

5-28-08

I know there are lots of varieties of phlox, but don't have a clue what these behind the allium are. Anyone know?

Your phlox is actually dames rocket. Phlox has five petals and opposite leaves, whereas dames rocket, like other species in the mustard family, has four petals and alternate leaves.

I see from an earlier post you are growing peas... how are they coming? I love fresh peas and mean to put some in every year, but haven't managed yet. I just have to keep watch at the Farmer's Market.

Thanks for the tip. It looks like the same stuff I see everywhere in rural areas around here, which made me think it was invasive (like Dames Rocket) and not a nice, friendly phlox.

Oh yeah...peas...thanks for asking. They're coming nicely. I put the stakes and trellis netting in this week. I'll add a post when they start to flower.

Yes, you must plant some next year! They are yummy when they're from the farmer's market, but it's amazing how much sweetness and crispness snow peas lose in such a short period of time. There's nothing like eating them off the vine.
